North Carolina Midwives Alliance invites midwives, students, apprentices, non-practicing midwives and supporters to join.

Your membership dues are used in the following ways:

  • To pursue legislation
  • To fund this website
  • To hold regional and statewide meetings
  • To host special events and educational opportunities

If you would like to become a member you must:

  1. Attend two NCMA meetings (statewide or regional);

  2. Have attended twenty (20) births as an active apprentice and twenty (20)
    births with primary supervision;

  3. Abide by the MANA documents, which are available for viewing at www.mana.org or may be obtained from the NCMA Secretary/Treasurer.

Students, apprentices, supporters and non-practicing midwives are eligible for non-voting membership by simply attending 2 meetings, either regional or statewide and paying dues.

Acceptance as a member shall occur upon:

  1. Payment of the current membership fees; and

  2. For Voting Memberships, fulfillment of the requirements listed above.

Privileges of Membership

1. Members shall be entitled to attend meetings of the NCMA and other

functions of the organization. To remain a Voting Member, the midwife must,

during January through December of a membership year:


a. Attend a minimum of one (1) peer review. The following items are required

as proof that the peer review requirement in this section has been met: 1)

Name of participant, 2) Date of peer review, 3) Number of participating

midwives, 4) Number of cases presented, 5) Number of hours, 6) Contact

information for verification. Voting Members must meet the NARM Guidelines

of five (5) hours of peer review every three (3) years, either by a peer

review workshop or community peer review. Community peer review must conform

to the NARM Community Peer Review Process. Peer review may be obtained

through NCMA or another qualifying group or organization;


b. Attend one (1) statewide or regional NCMA meeting. NCMA expects members

to be accountable and to notify their Regional Representative or the

Secretary/Treasurer if they are unable to attend a scheduled meeting.


2. Voting Members may chair meetings, may make motions, vote at meetings,

may be members and chairs of committees, and may hold office in NCMA.


3. Non-Voting Members may make motions, be members and chairs of committees,

and hold the office of NCMA Secretary/Treasurer.


Voting Rights

Each Voting Member shall be entitled to one vote.


Termination of Membership

1. Termination

Voting Members must meet the Privileges of Membership within six (6) months

of joining NCMA, and continue to meet the requirements each year thereafter.

At each NCMA meeting, the Secretary/Treasurer shall make available a list of

those Voting Members who have yet to fulfill the requirements. Voting

Members who have not met the requirements within five (5) months of joining

NCMA will receive a reminder. If a Voting Member can provide a reasonable

explanation for failure to attend a meeting(s), the Board may vote to extend

their membership for the period until the next NCMA meeting occurs. If the

Voting Member fails to attend the next meeting after such membership has

been extended, their membership will be terminated. Membership may also be

terminated for non-payment of dues, or by resignation of a member.

2. Reinstatement

Membership terminated by:

a. Resignation or failure to fulfill the Privileges of Membership shall be

restored in the original manner. Dues must be paid if the calendar year in

which dues were last paid has elapsed.

b. Non-payment of dues shall be restored by payment of the current year's

dues.
